About them: Rocket is a mechanical genius where nowhere to use his expertise right now. Back home, he invents anything from new weapons to tools, to things that let you fly.
He's also um ... very sarcastic and very angry at times, mostly because he's angry at the world for making him, and angry at himself for how lonely he is. Not that he'd ever admit that to anyone.
Rocket can also be very goal oriented, and he can tolerate a lot to achieve that goal. While he won't suppress his own distaste of someone, he'll still work with them. What a team player!
Finally, he treats his friends terribly on some kind of surface level, but he has your back when it counts. Making friends with Rocket won't be easy (or obvious) until a life or death situation — but that's when he'll show his true colors.
Current plans: Rocket is totally fresh meat, and also has an amazing track record of being able to break out of high-tech prisons, so he's not going to actually believe that he can't get out of here yet, no matter what anyone says. He's going to be poking around, pushing limits, and not entirely focused on making long term plans because he isn't convinced he'll be here long-term.
Desired CR: I'm not sure if the first month is too early, but while I know (and would love) to have some negative CR, I also want to put Rocket is these terribly awkward positions where people save his life and therefore he owes people something. It doesn't mean he'll be any less of a jerk, but he will try to return the favor. Also, I got a flavor of this on the TDM with Bluestar, but making friends with the very animal character here I think would do him a lot of good too!
I'm also really up for anything. The thing that makes me most anxious is negative CR carrying over OOC, because my overall RP experience suggests that it's hard for people not to take things personally (myself included!) but I would really love to work on that and have actual, gritty, movie-scene-worthy fighting/shouting/name-calling scenes with people.
HI HELLO I have no idea how their CR is going to shake out yet, but Davesprite can easily provide the more assholish, trolling kind of interactions or actual helpful, friendly sort. or both! even in the same convo! he's flexible like that. don't worry about me taking IC conflict personally OOC, either; negative interactions between characters can be super fun and I don't take them to reflect the player's opinion at all. also the whole being half-crow thing might come up pretty easily, depending how their thread goes.
I would love both, because not gonna lie, the way Rocket has responded to him so far is kind of amazing? Like, he's like YES, here is someone willing to call me an asshole. Now we can talk for real. I'd love for them to troll each other while also having an actual conversation.
And thank you for mentioning the IC to OOC stuff too. I get the feeling that Snowblind is a special place where negative CR can thrive and is fun for people. <3
yeah, the game is good for it! people have all sorts of characters in varying levels of assholery, and people generally know not to take it like it's directed at them, the player, and are cool about toning it down if it bugs someone. Rocket should fit right in, really.
but honestly, when Davesprite's own username is what it is, of course he's going to take the username for a warning. he understands the intent. he knows what he's in for. time for him to be helpful anyway, you're welcome.
Joker is a font of bad vibes and horrible, but he'd probably think Rocket is cute....yep. So that could be infuriating!
chaos here is a space angel and as such is generally unflappable. He won't lose his cool over someone being a jerk unless the jerk-ness becomes violent.
Don't worry about me taking IC conflict personally either, negative character CR can be super fun (and I play a villain and a weirdo, so).

And yeah, Chaos sounds super interesting. Because Rocket won't actually bring in violence unless someone is making fun of him in a certain way (or trying to use violence themselves) so I'd love to see where that goes. Usually Rocket knows just how to push people, so the fact that Chaos never loses his cool ... I don't even know how he'd react. All I know is that it'll make him grow as a character.

Man — I all up for Rocket being able to do something useful for all that mechanical genius. Because he isn't going to be able to use it to build things to get them out of here, at least he can help fix that robotic hand.
Though, you have been warned. Rocket has been known to find stealing prosthetics to be hilarious.
I think it's going to be really interesting to see Stephen and Rocket interact at more length/in person. Stephen's making a deliberate effort to play nice because he tries to get on with new people, set people at ease, all that, if only because it makes life easier. That's only going to last so long, though; he's not going to able to keep a lid on his own sarcasm and occasional abrasiveness forever.
Meanwhile, Ecks actually has some things in common with Rocket re: being created for science by a real bastard who wasn't concerned too much about her mental or emotional health. It'll be interesting to see whether he has the patience to talk to her long enough to find out; she can come off as dumber than she really is and she's pretty bullheaded about logicking things out at her own pace.
So yeah basically I want to throw both of mine at Rocket and see how it goes.
Yes! Agreed! This all sounds wonderful and I'm sure at some point, Stephen and Rocket will start bickering.
In terms of Ecks, I really want to know where that goes. Rocket really needs to have some friends he can bond with over shared traumatic experiences, but given his personality, it's definitely not something he's going to be willing to bring up easily. The real trick is if he stays around long enough/nicely enough to hear Ecks talk about it. If so, he probably will open up.
The good news is that Ecks has long since moved past any efforts to keep her origins on the down-low. She's fairly open about it anymore, though part of that is because she's still coming to grips with the idea that the things done to her were wrong. It's really just a question of when she'll have reason to talk about it to him/in front of him.
I am sooo looking forward to this! Peter's definitely going to work on getting himself sorted now that Rocket's here (and he can't show his weaknesses in front of him nope--which is going to definitely happen yep) and Rocket being here is gonna give him something to focus on rather than all the terrible things that have happened to him/stuff he's afraid of.
And no worries at all about negative CR and me taking it personally, I absolutely adore IC conflict!
I'm looking forward to this so hard. Especially because I feel like Peter needs some tough love sometimes. But also because these two have crazy moments of connecting and it kills me every time.
