TEST DRIVE MEME

If you'd like to apply to Snowblind and would like to test the waters first or get a sample set up for your application, this meme is for you! We've even provided some prompts for you to use if you want (but feel free to make up your own). Here's how it works.
✭ Reply to this entry with a character you're considering apping into the game. You can include the name of your character and the fandom in your subject line.
✭ Comment around to others on the meme, whether you're in the game already or not.
✭ Now you have a sample ready for your application!
✭ So go reserve and apply when reservations and applications are open.
✭ Seriously, do it.

Network Prompts
ONE: HUNTING SEASON
You wake up in the morning to find that a new application has appeared on your tablet. It's labelled "SCAVENGER HUNT" and when you open it, you find a long list of items that, if the title is anything to go by, need to be collected. At first, the items seem rather innocuous; things like bottle caps, napkins, Scotch tape, mittens. As the list continues, though, the items become a little more interesting. Where are you going to find "one pint of type O- blood"? How does one collect a "cry for mercy"? Does the "human sacrifice" need to be human? Most importantly, what are you supposed to do with these items once you've collected them all?

Maybe you should check your list with the Network. Some folks might be willing to pool resources.

TWO: ONE, TWO, SKIP A FEW
Sometime yesterday, you noticed that a timer placed itself on the Network. Contacting the Admin about it provided no explanation, of course, and nobody's tablet buddy seems to have any answers. It started from zero and began counting upwards, seconds ticking away like lightning, but nothing was happening, so there was nothing to be done. Suddenly, however, you can't help but notice the count stutter and jump upwards to 99 hours in. And then, at 100, it stops and vanishes. As far as you can tell, nothing's changed, but it's disconcerting enough that you can't get it off your mind. Maybe someone else on the Network has some theories.

Action Prompts
THREE: WHAT WE DO WITH THE SHADOWS
You and your companion decided that, for whatever reason, this house was worth investigating. It took something unorthodox—like moving all the furniture to one place, illuminating certain segments of the room, reciting a message, or maybe something else—but by doing it, it seems you've invited another guest. It's a shadowy figure with no face and no discernible limbs, and it goes wherever you go, lingering behind you just so that you can only ever see it out of your peripheral vision. Your companion can see it well enough, though, and sometimes it follows them instead. It doesn't seem to be hostile, but can you know that for sure? Either way, lockdown has already fallen, and you're stuck with it through the night.

FOUR: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?
You’ve just gotten comfortable for the night with your traveling companion when something odd happens. You hear an animal. A dog? A cat? A bird? Maybe the sound is coming from outside, or in the other room. Maybe you feel it brush or flutter past you without anything being there. Or maybe you even see it…just out of the corner of your eye, as it darts around a corner. You feel like maybe it’s trying to alert you to something, somehow. Or maybe you just really want to see if you can coax it out. Careful, though, get too close too quickly and you may aggravate it. As phantom as the animal may seem, the claw marks you receive for your trouble feel very real.

[ Does he ever, though?

Natasha follows his lead, raising her eyebrows a little as she waits. Annnnd... nothing. So, she tries again, pitching her voice a little softer, much more sweet.]

Come here, little one. We won't hurt you.

[Is this worth it to potentially throw up and pass out? Maybe being a superhero just predisposes you to dumb choices.]
actuallydaredevil: (daredevil says what)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-16 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ Very rarely. Like. Maybe once. ]

You can't feel that? Hm.

[ He'll go ahead and try to (carefully) move her wrist into where he can clearly feel this not-dog's breath. I mean, it's gotta be there, or else they'll be getting themselves injured for nothing, right? Superheroes definitely don't ever do that. ]

Come on, boy. We're the good guys, see?
redrooms: (055)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-16 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh! Now she feels it, and she smiles even though it's... sort of disconcerting, feeling what is definitely breath on her hand when there's nothing there.]

That's right. You're safe.

[Natasha thinks, just for a second, she feels a cold, wet nose brush against her hand, and her eyes go wide for a moment.]

Did you feel that?
actuallydaredevil: (pic#10396735)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-16 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Meanwhile as far as Matt's concerned there's a fully-grown dog there, wagging its tail and fading in and out, but definitely "visible." ]

Weird, right? [ But wow good thing she can feel it too, he was a little worried there for a second. ]

Better this than--- [ He catches himself, pulling his hand off of her wrist. ] Actually, I won't jinx it.

[ Thank you Mark Waid for making Matt self-aware. ]

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-16 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
[She shoots him a teasing look before turning her attention back to the dog. Or where the dog should be?]

Thank you. Because if you say something and this all goes south, I'm blaming you.

[And she's just going to... lean forward a bit more, awkwardly feeling around until she brushes her fingers through what feel just like fur.]

It's... warm.

[MATT THIS IS SO WEIRD? She's wondering how Tony will explain this. Another weird glitch? Something messing with their perception?]
actuallydaredevil: (pic#10396727)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-16 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
You can count on me.

[ You should definitely not do that. Usually. ]

You really can't see it?

[ Matt scritches the dog's snout, getting its tail wagging. It feels like a normal dog, too. Maybe it really is invisible somehow. Wouldn't be the first time he saw through something like that. ]

There we go. You're a good boy, aren't you?
redrooms: (031)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-16 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Maybe she shouldn't, but she does it anyway. Oops.]

I don't see anything.

[Natasha slides her hand up to scratch behind the dog's ears, shifting so that she's sitting crosslegged on the floor rather than crouching.]

A while back, one of the groups here ran into an invisible cat. They fed it, and when it disappeared, they found an app on their tablet. It might be worth a try.
actuallydaredevil: (pic#10396740)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-16 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Superhero's prerogative. ]

And yet, here he is.

[ Matt scratches its head and slides his hand down its back. It feels kind of like a labrador, maybe? He's not super sure. ]

That sounds like a plan. You happen to have any food on you?

[ Because Matt probably gave his away, let's be real. ]
redrooms: (055)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-16 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Of course he did. Don't make Natasha shove food down your throat, Matt.

She doesn't respond to his question, though, just pulls her hand away and stands up to grab her pack. It takes a second or two of rifling through it to find anything that's really dog appropriate, but she settles on a package of now frozen hot dogs and hands them to Matt. They're gross, anyway.]

Don't let him take your fingers off.
actuallydaredevil: (aw gosh)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-16 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Stop eating? Matt? Never. Haha, that would definitely never happen. ]

These look like fingers, you know. [ He's joking, but I mean if it wasn't for the smell, he could "see" it. Hopefully the dog's more like Matt-- food smells and people smells don't register in the same way.

It's still weird not being able to sense Natasha when she gets out of his periphery, but he accepts the hot dogs and tears one out of the packaging without having to turn around.
]

Here, boy, hope you don't mind a cold lunch.

[ One hot dog, partially frozen and probably not edible, at your service, ghost dog. The dog for his part sniffs it, as if trying to decide if it's safe to eat. ]
redrooms: (038)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-16 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's weird for Natasha, too, that he isn't aware of where she is at all times. Eventually she'll figure out a way to try to compensate for it like she has with Clint, but at the moment, she hasn't quite adjusted yet.]

Look like fingers, but maybe he'll decide to eat a little more creatively. [And then, to their weird dog friend:] What do you think, boy? I wouldn't try it. I'm sure Matt would only give you indigestion.
actuallydaredevil: (bay area hero)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-16 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Sound and smells still work, it's mostly his trusty radar that's been nerfed down to "normal ninja" levels. ]

That's a good boy. You don't want to eat my fingers, do you?

[ He tells the dog, coaxing the hot dog into its mouth as it starts to eat it. Guess ghosts don't really have to worry about cooking their food. ]

I definitely wouldn't taste very good. You're choosier than that, aren't you, boy?
redrooms: (074)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-16 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone needs to be.

[She watches the dog take the hot dog with raised eyebrows, and she can't help but laugh incredulously.]

We're making friends with an invisible dog.
actuallydaredevil: (pic#10396734)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-17 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ Aw, don't sell yourself short, Nat. ]

Speak for yourself, he looks perfectly fine to me.

[ Always the blind jokes, Matt..... But really, with the dog eating away, it must look pretty strange. ]

Does it look like the hot dog is just disappearing or what?
redrooms: (073)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-17 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[God, Matt. The things she puts up with. She rolls her eyes, then crouches down beside him again, watching the dog "eat".]

Yes, but it's... hard to look at. It's giving me a headache.

[And making her sort of nauseous, but hey. Details. She forces herself to watch until the vague discomfort turns into a steady pounding at the base of her skull, and then turns to look at Matt.]

Any strange effects for you?
actuallydaredevil: (human lie detector)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ An unfortunate downside to being friends with Matt. So many blind puns. ]

Nothing more than usual.

[ Matt's the kind of guy who could walk for miles in low-key pain and just not care. He pets the dog's ears as it eats, encouraging it. ]

It kind of... fades in and out, but my radar sense has been off since I got here, so it's hard to say. The details are kind of blurry.
redrooms: (055)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-17 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting.

[She says it softly, almost more to herself than him, then pulls her tablet out of her pocket and holds it up, aiming the camera at Matt's hand and taking a few pictures. Natasha lets out another thoughtful hum as she studies them.]

The pictures I took of it are distorted, like static.

[Which makes no sense, because you don't get static on digital images. And then, because Natasha is an asshole and needs to get him back, she adds:]

Want to see?
actuallydaredevil: (pic#10396734)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-17 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[ Try having blurry images on a sense that normally paints things in solid shapes, Natasha. IT WOULD BE REALLY HARD, OK. ]

Hmmm, yes. [ He gestures dramatically, waving his hands in front of his face as if that would help him see. ] Let me run my hands over the flat screen and tell you how it feels exactly like every other flat screen I've ever seen.

[ Boy oh boy does Matt love flat screen technology!!! ]
redrooms: (074)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-17 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Natasha laughs, rolling her eyes again. Don't hurt yourself, Matt.]

Ah, well, you'd be wrong. This is a very advanced, indestructible flat screen.

[Annnd she's just going to send those pictures to Tony.]

Are you going to adopt our invisible friend?
actuallydaredevil: (aw gosh)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-17 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, of course. I haven't tried punching the screen yet, so I wasn't sure.

[ Matt smirks. Making Natasha laugh is definitely a win in his book. ]

I guess I could. Chances are I'm the only one who can 'see' him without getting a headache. [ #sightedproblems. He turns to the dog: ] You'd starve otherwise, wouldn't you, boy? Can't have that.
redrooms: (053)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-17 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yet.

[She slips her tablet back into her coat pocket and plants her hands on her hips, head tilting slightly. As oddly... cute as an invisible dog might be, she's still viewing this more as a way to test whatever the hell is going on with this place.]

Generally, these... glitches, or whatever you want to call them, don't seem to last very long. If he doesn't disappear, he might not be able to follow us.

[Why is she talking about the dog like it's real? Well, okay, she's not one thousand percent sure it isn't real, but. Details.]
actuallydaredevil: (daredevil says what)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-17 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It was on my list.

[ Punching is usually pretty high on the list when it comes to Matt Murdock. Right after talking and radar-sensing. He's been updating from the old punch-first-ask-questions-later plan. ]

So if it's a glitch, does that mean there was supposed to be a dog here? One you could see, I mean?

[ The dog is certainly very real to Matt, and it's getting a very real belly rub now that it is happy and fed. It's a shame you're missing out, Natasha. ]
redrooms: (035)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-17 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure. I'll update you with Stark's latest theory when he gets back to me.

[She's smiling again, because even if she can't see the dog, she can tell Matt is rubbing its belly. Cute.]

If you punch something and break your hand, I'm not setting it for you.
actuallydaredevil: (bay area hero)

[personal profile] actuallydaredevil 2016-09-17 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
How long have you known me? You act like I don't know how to throw a punch.

[ Matt smirks. It's been a long time since he and Natasha talked without getting too wrapped up in each other's pasts and business so it's. Nice. Thanks, dog. Who's a good boy?? ]

Stark's working on figuring this place out, huh? How's that going?
redrooms: (074)

[personal profile] redrooms 2016-09-17 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's pretty easy to set differences aside when you're trapped in a frozen hellscape. It's only a matter of time before they argue about something, but for now Natasha is more worried about getting home. She sighs at the question, though.]

About as well as it is for anyone else. Tony can't actually access any of the tech here to test his theories, so we'll still flying blind.

[Wait.]

That wasn't supposed to be a pun.
